Moon Mountain will take your child through a wonderful experience in art and nature. Our emphasis is hands-on, interactive, and fun learning, with exposure to a wide range of artistic media and methods. Each session will have it's own theme, and your child will learn to develop and sharpen their skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery and other mediums. We will work with each individual's skill level.

Moon Mountain is offering 3 sessions of artcamp for kids ages 5 through 12. Students are divided into groups according to age, with a maximum of 12 children per group. Each group will rotate between 4 different classes througout the day. Moon Mountain will provide snacks and beverages for "snack times". Each student should bring their own sack lunch.

Classes will run Monday through Friday, 8:45-4:00 p.m.. Students can be dropped off between 8:00-8:40 a.m., and will need to be picked up no later than 5:00 p.m..

*Groups will rotate through four 1 1/2 hour classes during the day. Projects will include: 2D Arts, 3D Arts, Decorative Arts and Ceramic Arts. Each class will address a different medium within the session's theme.

Session 1 - Outer Space - June 14th - June 18th
Jump in our spaceship this week, as we travel through space. Our flight path stops at all 9 planets in our solar system. We'll learn about each planet's composition, size, and position relative to Earth and the Sun. Beware of the asteroids between Mars and Jupiter. The Spaceship will travel to different galaxies, black holes and super-novas, and we will learn how stars are born. Our focus is to help students gain an understanding of space and our solar system through art and knowledge. The art projects for this session will be hands on.

Some of this weeks projects will include:

  • designing your own spacecraft
  • making key chains with Suns, Moons, and other celestial things
  • paper mache rockets, Suns and planets
  • making solar system models with styrofoam and acrylic paint
  • solar system mobiles

Session 2 - Native America - July 5th - July 9th

In this week of classes, we will be exploring the Native American cultures. Native Americans once inhabited nearly all of North America. Much of their culture and way of life has been lost, but fortunately, many artifacts and historical tales still exist. We will explore many interesting Native American traditions. Students will learn how Native Americans adapted to their surroundings, and how they learned to live off of the land. We will explore survival skills, wild foods, medicinal plants, tools, ceremonies, spirituality, and art.

Session 3 - Water World - July 19th - July 23rd

Get your scuba gear ready, you are about to discover the vast underworld of our oceans. We will take you on the adventure of your life. Explore plants, fish, marine mammals, and sunken treasures. Learn how the Moon and our Sun cause the oceans tides to change. Explore coral reefs and their inhabitants. Learn about the beautiful and diverse plants, and algea in our oceans. Dive into the ocean's 4 zones, epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathypelagic, and abyssopelagic. These zones represent various depths in the oceans, and effect the plant and animal life found. We will explore the oceans in a new, exiting way, through art.

Supervised Recess

Students will be able to relax and enjoy the mountain air. There will be board games, cards, soccer, frisbee, football and art activities.

The Snack Shack

Moon Mountain will provide snacks and beverages for 'snack time'. The Snack Shack will serve good, quality snacks such as fruit, nuts, crackers, pretzels, granola bars and cookies. The Shack will also serve juices, lemonade and iced tea. If your child is allergic to, or is not allowed to eat a certain food because of a specific diet, please let us know on your application. Students can keep their sack lunches in our refrigerators if necessary. We ask all students to please write their names on their lunch boxes or sack lunches, and drinks.
